Physically, two of her most notable features were her face and complexion. “I thought about it. Do you need to talk?”
I shook my head and said, “I do, but I’m going to grab coffee with a friend.” I tried giving her a half-hearted smile. My eyes roamed over one of Jessica’s best features—her flawless skin. A sob escaped from her as she said, “Marcus—”
“How long?” I repeated. I’m staying in Kansas.”
“Why?” I repeated. Jessica was broke. To be fair, they could have just as easily been worry lines due to her moron of a husband. I’m good.”
I stared directly into her dark brown eyes, assessing her situation while the corpse of my relationship was still cooling in my apartment. At least, it had for me. I had been dating this woman for months, ignoring other opportunities and remaining faithful, but she had been doing this behind my back for a month.
