What had happened? I walked through the kitchen and into the mudroom, but when I looked through the window, which gave me a view of the side yard, there was still no sign of Bruno. I stood up and cautiously started walking toward the pool house, thinking if Bruno followed me in there, I would be able to close the door and lock him in. For a time, Michael seemed oblivious to any changes having taken place in our household. Once he had freed himself, Bruno looked back at me and left the room, and I could hear him padding down the stairs. It seemed easier to take him this time, and it didn’t hurt as much as it had the day before. Bruno would watch me and sniff at me constantly.
